Minnesota visitors

Uncle Shawn and his family had to travel to Austin for a funeral and it just so happened to coincide with my parents visit.  The kids had a great time playing together and I was glad they were able to spend time together.  Molly loves ALL of her cousins and often asks to see those who live afar.  Of course I didn't get any good pictures of all of the kids together but I will share one of Grandpa with Noah, Molly, and Johnny from the cattle drive in Georgetown and a picture of Uncle Shawn with his newest nephew.

Grandparents visit

Last week we were so blessed to have my parents visit for a whole week.  They were a huge help to us, cooking, cleaning, watching kids (especially in the middle of the night), and even painting the fence!  Samuel makes grandchild number 10 for my parents so of course that makes him a little extra special!

Samuel's 2 week check up

Samuel had his 2 week doctor's visit yesterday.  He is continuing to grow at a steady rate weighing 9lbs 3oz and 20.75".  He is in the 50-75th percentile for both height and weight.  I don't have the greatest camera on my phone but here is a picture from the doctor's office.

Pumpkin patch

Today I took Molly and Johnny to a pumpkin patch with some friends.  Here are a couple quick pictues of the hayrack ride and from decorating pumpkins.  They enjoyed it and I'm sure it will not be our only visit to the pumpkins this year. . .
As a side note, it was my first time to leave Samuel and he did great with our nanny.

Bugs from Granddaddy

Granddaddy and Grandma Karleen came to visit on Monday.  It was their first time to meet Samuel and I'm pretty sure they are smitten.  Here are a couple pictures of Grandaddy entertaining Molly and Johnny by drawing bugs on them.  They really enjoyed it and kept asking for more bugs, good thing it was bath night!

Where does milk come from

Lately we have been talking a lot about where our food comes from.  Our conversation at breakfast (on where kiwi come from):
Johnny: Cows
Me: No, but milk comes from cows
Johnny: Milk comes from the refrigerator!

First check-up

Samuel had his first doctor's visit on Wednesday.  The doctor was very impressed that Samuel was almost back to his birth weight, weighing 8lb 10oz.  I guess waking up every 2 hours is worth it!
Here are a couple random shots I took trying out different camera settings.

Welcome Samuel James

Here goes the whirlwind story of the birth of baby number three, Samuel James Roberts.  It all started Saturday around 2:30am.  I woke having a few brief but painful contractions.  I didn't want to get up at 2:30 and was hoping it was nothing.  I got up shortly thereafter and was just not feeling well; I was hot and clammy but my water had not broken so I was still unsure if I was going into labor.  I woke Paul about 4:00am.  He thought it would be a good idea for me to get in the tub while he showered and got ready to go to the hospital.  I was feeling okay in the tub.  My contractions were getting more frequent but I was able to tolerate them.  I remember telling Paul that I didn't feel as strong about giving birth this time and he reassured me it was fine to get an epidural.  At that point I had decided that this time I would likely opt for an epidural.  I finally got out of the tub and got dressed and out of the bath, the contractions were very strong.  Luckily Paul had called the nanny right away so she was there and we headed to the hospital.  It was pouring rain and Paul drove as quickly as he could.  Up to that point I had not timed my contractions but I was watching the clock in the car and realized they were coming every 1-2 minutes.  Paul dropped me at the ER entrance while he parked.  I walked in there in a daze and they quickly wheeled me to labor and delivery.  Once in the room, I got a gown on, sat on the bed and had the sensation the baby was about to come.  I told Paul and he quickly called out to the nurses that the baby was coming.  My nurse came in to check me and said I was dilated to 9-9 1/2.  My doctor was not there yet so she said if I could wait to push, wait but if I couldn't to go ahead.  A few intense minutes later our son was born at 5:36am weighing in at 8lbs 12.5oz and 20" long.  No, my doctor did not make it as I was at the hospital for a total of 26 minutes from ER check in to delivery!  There was an ER doctor present but the nurses did everything.  It was very quick and overwhelming but the outcome was perfect.
Our new little boy is adjusting to life at the Roberts house and we are adjusting to him.  Molly is in love with Samuel.  Both kids are very protective.  Every time he cries they tell me repeatedly as if I don't hear him!  Today Johnny asked when Samuel was going home and where his house is. . . so maybe we are not 100% adjusted yet!
